A Note from Mayor Williams

Dear Residents:

Thank you to all residents that attended the Village Fire Commission Meeting last night, Wednesday, December 19th at Hedwig Village City Hall.  Bunker Hill made a presentation to the Village Fire Commission on two items:

  • Resolution regarding Bunker Hill’s Membership in the Village Fire Department
  • A Proposal to develop a Second Station in the Southwest Section of the Service Area to better serve this Area.

Bunker Hill’s Settlement Presentation included the following two key points:

  • Bunker Hill will stay in the Village Fire Department. At the meeting, Bunker Hill paid all pending invoices which totaled $21,626.25 and committed to the 2019 operating budget and the capital budget to renovate the Fire Station.
  • When additional staff is needed at the Village Fire Department to manage future growth in our service area, a Second Station will be added in the southwest area to house the additional staff. Bunker Hill offered to acquire the property, design, build and finance Station 2 and the VFD would reimburse Bunker Hill the amortizing costs of the station which are estimated to be $150,000 to $200,000 a year.

In summary, Bunker Hill Village desires to remain a full member of the Village Fire Department and wants to work in good faith with the Fire Commission and Fire Chief to plan for a second station the future.

The Commission took no action on the settlement presentation.  The commission did appoint a sub-committee to address service to Bunker Hill past the year 2019.  At this point in time, we don’t know what they will propose.  However, we are still confident that we are a member of the VFD.

The VFD Commission did state that they could not commit to a second station. We are disappointed that the VFD will not commit to a future station in the southwest part of the service area.
