August 16, 2024 Update

Storm Debris Collection

The City’s debris vendor started the collection of storm vegetation debris from the Right-of-Way (ROW) on Tuesday, August 13. Weather permitting, this sweep is expected to be completed by Monday, August 19. Harris County contractor crews continue collection efforts as well. City staff will conduct a windshield inspection on Monday to inventory any remaining debris piles. Only storm vegetation debris will be collected.  Any new “green” vegetation will not be collected and should adhere to yard waste collection requirements or hauled off by your landscaper.

Important information about storm debris collection:

  • Storm-related debris includes vegetation (tree limbs, tree trunks, leaves).
  • All debris must be stacked in the ROW. Please do not park vehicles on the street near debris piles and do not stack items on top of meter boxes, water valves, inlets, ditches, etc.
  • Fence and construction debris will not be collected. Residents are advised to arrange for their contractor to haul off these items.
  • Trees on private property are the responsibility of the property owner, and crews will not remove or trim these trees.
  • Keep storm debris clearly separated from regular trash, recycling, and yard waste. Report missed trash to This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it. and/or hold it until your next scheduled day.

Mosquito Control

Citywide mosquito spraying is currently taking place twice per week. The spray is spread by air circulation that only neutralizes any swarms that are active during spraying. Depending on the thickness of the surrounding tree canopy and vegetation, there is a possibility that the spray may not reach rear and side yards.

In addition to the City's efforts, follow these helpful tips to defend against mosquitoes:

  • Drain/ Dump: drain or dump out any standing water around your yard.
  • Day, Dusk, and Dark: mosquitoes are active at all times and bite anytime the temperature rises above 55F.
  • Dress: wear long sleeves and pants when outdoors. Choose fabrics with a tight weave instead of knits or other loosely woven materials. For extra protection, spray thin clothing with repellent.
  • Deet: use insect repellent containing deet. Follow label instructions.
