Update from Special City Council Meeting March 27, 2019

The City Council held a Special City Council Meeting this morning, Wednesday, March 27, 2019. The City Council voted to approve the “Letter of Intent” submitted by the Village Fire Commission.   This continues efforts to develop a formal agreement to continue Fire and EMS Services to Bunker Hill Village through December 31, 2023.

In the meeting, Mayor Williams thanked Mayor Mark Kobelan from the City of Piney Point for his efforts on coordinating this process with the other Cities and the Fire Commission.

Commission Meeting - February 27, 2019

The Fire Commission on Wednesday, February 27, 2019 and an item was included on the agenda to discuss Fire and EMS Services in Bunker Hill.   Mark Kobelan, Mayor of Piney Point Village along with Brian Muecke, Mayor of Hedwig Village presented a settlement agreement.   The settlement agreement presented included the following:

  • Bunker Hill contracts with the Village Fire Department for Fire and EMS for four additional years after December 31, 2019 at Bunker Hill’s current rate of 19%.
  • Bunker Hill will have the right to opt into full membership in the Village Fire Department at the end of the four year period (January 1, 2024) providing an eighteen-month notice.
  • Bunker Hill can add EMS Services for Bunker Hill during this time at Bunker Hill’s sole expense

Mayor Kobelan indicated that all Six Village Mayors are supportive of the agreement.  The Fire Commission also appeared supportive of the agreement.  The next step is to draft a letter of intent to be presented to the six (6) cities.

Bunker Hill is pleased with this progress and offers appreciation for the efforts of Mayor Kobelan and the other Cities.
